Gold room upgrade question
Hi all,
My wife received a Hilton Honours Gold card as part of an Air Canada Aeroplan promotion. We are booked into a Hilton next week. Neither of us has ever used a web check-in for a hotel room. If an upgraded room is available, is that only done at arrival at the hotel, or can it happen at web check-in?
Also, if we were to check-in before travelling to our destination but then get stuck along the way, can we still use the 6 p.m. cancellation for the room if needed? Or, is it wiser to just wait to get to the hotel to check-in?
Finally, what sort of benefits would be typical at a Hilton Garden Inn for a Gold member? I have been a Marriott Silver Elite for some years now and typically get a room upgrade and maybe a little gift at check-in (some cookies or snacks, for example) but that is all. If a hotel has a concierge floor and a room available, that can be a common upgrade too.
