They are indeed quite a bit more comfortable than the normal seats. These seats also have VERY long seatbelts. Only problem were the tables, they're stowed in the seat divider, under the armrest, and don't extend forward very far, so could be uncomfortable at mealtimes.
There's usually a lot of infants traveling in the this cabin (they attach bassinets to the bulkhead).
I've traveled several times in one of these seats, always on an economy ticket. Last time I could book one of these when I reserved my ticket.
Personal entertainment system was the same as further back in the plane, and not nearly as good as what I've seen on Etihad's 777's.
Becaus of this I guess this is indeed an old config (but I quite like it).
