Delayed luggage on MEL-LAX and LAX-MEL flights
Last week I flew MEL-LAX return.
After the grueling 15 hour flight to LA I found that my two bags had mistakenly been sent to SFO. I had to spend the first day and night in LA without fresh clothes or even toiletries to freshen-up after such a long flight.
My first bag was delivered to the hotel 1.30am the following morning. The second bag was delivered at 6:30am the same morning (apparently the local courier missed picking up both bags from LAX).
On the return flight to Melbourne, one piece of luggage was delayed by some 6 hours (delayed in SYD).
I am going to write to UA to be compensated for the delayed baggage inconvenience.
Sure I've experience baggage delayed before with several airlines, but to have all bags delayed after a 15 hour overnight flight, then not appearing for almost another 24 hours is a major inconvenience. The baggage botch-up on the return flight also rubbed salt into a bitter wound.
What do you think would be reasonable compensation given United mishandled my bags on BOTH outbound and return flights from Australia.
