yep, ticket by mail.

the only time that's an issue is if you or your friend is hoping for an upgrade on a rapidly filling flight, but it sounds like that's not a problem in this case. you can reserve the ticket over the phone and mail in the voucher (use your or your friend's cc for the difference).
