The Amtrak Thruway schedules include some recovery time, so an on-time journey should result in an early arrival at San Jose, with more time than the published schedule to make the transfer.

And, the good thing about this type of service is that the bus service operates solely for the trains. The bus driver has a cell phone and keeps in communication.

On a recent trip on a Sunday from SLO to SAC, we ran into heavy traffic north of Salinas and ended up arriving at SJC 4 minutes after scheduled train departure. However, due to the good communications, the train was held to allow all passengers to make the connection. There were a number of communications between the bus driver and SJC station staff updating everyone on exactly where the bus was. (The train won't be held indefinitely...at some point people would just take the next one....but at least there is some ability to arrange for holds that are reasonable in nature).

Please report back here on how your trip went.
