Be aware that all banks will be using a similar system in due course. Lloyds and RBS/Natwest have also joined Barclays and the rest are not that far behind. The idea was that the PIN device you were given by your respective bank should also be usable by all other banks. I unfortunately have had something to do with this project.
I am maintaining 138 sets of ID+passwords for umpteen bank/savings accounts, e-shopping websites and other registration stuff and they all insist on their own variety of CAPS, letters and numbers, banned digit combinations. Now they want me to generate a new set of data when I use a card online and carry around the calculator thingy just for creating a new standing order. It is the last thing I take with me when I am packing for a long trip.
I propose we put all the software geeks that devise this stuff into mediEVIL stocks and pelt them with rotten tomatoes until they recant their sins. When they are standing at The Pearly Gates they better have the right user ID +Password and encryption process to hand to get past the Ultimate Boss
