You need to book a 1 night hotel stay to use the 1,500 miles voucher that comes with the credit card .... You don't have to stay in the hotel, of course, so you can book the cheapest hovel available, but you do need to book something.

One thing that did look interesting was the BAA Worldpoints promo, offering 200 Air Miles if you apply for and use the card 3 times before 31st March. As long as you have 1 trip to a BAA airport lined up, you can easily use the card 3 times - simply buy 3 newspapers in WH Smith, or a newspaper and then a coffee at Starbucks and a toothbrush in Boots etc. No need to spend more than a couple of quid and its stuff you'd buy anywhere.

Air Miles sold on ebay are usually the old-style paper vouchers that were phased out a few years ago but which are still accepted by Air Miles. If you haven't got the old-style paper miles then I'm not sure how easily you can sell them, unless you book a flight for someone else out of your account.
