I always try to get an exit row seat with lots of legroom, like 9C on a 752. The last several times I've flown I've been crowded half out of my seat by an extra-large person in 9B. Sunday 9A, 9B, and 8E were all taken by extra-extra-large folks, and 8D--vacant-- seems to have been purchased by Mr. 8E because of his size.
Has anybody else had this experience? What seats give you the best chance of sitting next to a modest-sized adult?

Bulkheads may also be shunned by larger pax, as many of them may also be quite tall. Never had a problem in this regard when sitting in a bulkhead seat.
However on the issue of larger pax, I don't see why they shouldn't have to pay a surcharge based on weight, as I do when I'm overweight with baggage. Has the same impact on the plane's performance. Otherwise, larger pax are getting a major benefit for free...
