Well this really sucks. My life partner had a massive cardiac arrest yesterday while still on holiday in Orlando. Thankfully he has been stable overnight but it's still too early to say what the prognosis is going to be. I called AA last night to ask about compassion fares because his mother, 5000 miles away at home, wanted to come to be with her son. I explained that we had existing reservations to fly home on January 10 and I can change those to a future date with a $100 change fee each (no mention of fee being waived for medical emergency). We're both PLT and considering the circumstances, I would have thought the change fee would have been waived but no such luck. Even worse is that AA cannot offer my partner's mother a compassion fare to fly from the UK to Orlando. All they suggested was that I book her a flight on AA.com. What gives with these rules? I thought compassion fares were available to all in need.
