I did DTW-AUS on the CRJ-900 last week. Was upgraded on an award ticket. A few observations, both positive and negative, some of which echo earlier posts:
- It was the smoothest and quietest takeoff of any commercial plane in my memory.
- F service was excellent. Drinks and meal were served from the galley, not an aisle cart. Don't know whether that is standard practice on these planes but it was a nice change. Dinner was exactly the same as one would get on a mainline flight.
- Reading lights were the brightest I've seen on any plane. Perhaps a bit too bright.
- Seats were strangely uncomfortable, especially after a couple of hours. Softer cushions and different lumbar support would help.
- F seat pitch is supposedly 3 inches greater than the DC9 (37" vs 34") but it certainly didn't feel that way. It seemed pretty equivalent (read: not great).
- We sat in row 2 but the bulkhead row looked like it had plenty of legroom. That will be my choice next time.
- You had to lean forward quite far to see out of the windows.
- Y looked quite cramped, although the two exit rows looked like they had plenty of room.
