Just like at the other legacy airlines. Fares have to go up to pay for fuel. Just yesterday, most airlines matched the latest fare hike.

I almost hate to say it but AA has been pricing itself into the trailer park crowd and look at their aircraft - they've received zero benefit from having done so. It is seriously time to cut capacity and raise fares accordingly. The LCCs exist to take care of the crowd AA should stop worrying about catering to. IMHO of course!
