I browsed the Marriott site during November and December, hoping to redeem Rewards points for a one-week stay at the Marriott Wailea. It seems that there are NO Rewards redemptions available at any Maui properties January-June without having to pay the extra cash upgrade. It really made me mad. It seems you have to book the Marriott Maui properties 9 months to a year in advance or pay from $75 to hundreds of dollars in cash upgrades. The cash upgrades irritate me, and, a spring vacation was very important to me. The result? I booked a one-week stay in a one-bedroom ocean view villa at the Marriott Ko Olina Beach Club on Oaho for only 125K Rewards points. I plan to print out 5 copies of whatever documentation I can get my hands on and make a few phone calls the week prior to ensure a smooth Rewards redemption. I stayed at the Marriott Waikoloa with Rewards points last year, and my stay was lovely.
