It depends on the jurisdiction. Under German law, it should be able deductible. I did it years ago and the German IRS accepted it. The problem is how to evaluate the used miles. In my opinionm, the best (and easyest) way is find out the fare on the airline's website. Make sure to research only few days before travel in order to obtain a high fare ;-)
