The real problem will be finding a hotel room if you're not going to be at the convention. Oy! Everything is booked all around the metro, because there aren't nearly enough at the downtown hotels. Book now if you want a shot at a hotel within the 94 loop IMO.
Had a similar problem back in March 2001 with the NCAA Men's Final 4 in town - getting my normal room was impossible. We just came out for work a day or two later that week and everything was fine, but that Sunday/Monday was pretty much impossible to find a room.
