I really appreciate everyone's advice and information! ^ I'm going to see if I can just get this to the point of ticketing, and after that hopefully come up with some kind of compromise with MP. 130k (like OW) would be fine. Or stall until I can get enough miles back into my US account, then cancel, rebook w/ US and ticket that way.
This was just a spur-of-the-moment vacation idea since all of my other plans for this year got messed up due to work committments. The upshot if it all works out is that there is great availability on SQ's A380 from SYD-SIN (but not the other way) - assuming of course that United isn't filtering availability. They've been able to find every other flight that I saw on the ANA tool, so so far, so good.
Thanks again all!
Sean
The A380 flights SIN-SYD-SIN on the ana tool have not been updated. SQ has changed those flights to 747's. There is a thread on this in the SQ forum as well.
I don't remember the new flights numbers which are A380, but they leave SIN at night now, and leave SYD in the afternoon now.
It's pretty easy to tell which flights are A380 however. The ones that are consistently available in Y only are A380.
Based on the ANA tool, I was able to get 3 seats (2C,1F) in October for SIN-SYD-SIN, all seats on 1 flight.
