Similar situation...but I'm not so sure if this is good or bad. My gf showed up at the airport 3 hours early in an attempt to get on an earlier SNA-SJC flight but no dice.

However, when I got to the airport about 10 minutes before her arrival, I recognized her bag in the "unclaimed area" outside the WN office...so I took it and greeted her with her bag in tow.
