Reminds me of my last flight on SQ from BLR to SIN in August. One raffles class passenger was handed a voucher for an amount that would fetch him the least expensive food item at the (sole) waiting area cafeteria. He could pay for the drink or have just the drink. The passenger, I could see, was genuinely puzzled at this, considering the voucher was given because there was no airline lounge in the airport. I agree with OP, having flown SQ to LHR, EWR, NRT and so on, I can concur that I think India flights (especially the ones to Chennai and in Economy) bring out the worst of SQ without fail.
