I set a close friend up with June Fabrics's PDA Net in December. He, however, uses Verizon's mail sync utility to sync with his office Outlook and Verizon disables Activesync (needed for PDANet). I reenabled Activesync and told him to never build an Activesync profile (always use Guest mode). Two days ago all data on his phone and desktop disappeared. Verizon's logs show that the command came from the Treo.

I think Verizon is completely wrong for pushing a solution that ignores industry standards, but I'm not going to win this fight. I was therefore looking for an alternative.

My friend works for a small firm and they don't want to directly open up their exchange server because of the extra security issues involved. Plan B is to VPN the PDA in to sync with Exchange, but no one is going to love this issue.
