We completed a boxing day daylight flight from CPT-LHR in BA Y -a class which I haven't flown in decades as I'm usually accustomed to the pointy end, but since we had a 3 year old travelling with us (the missus and me) and since itīs my dime I reluctlantly saw the value of such a move and thought about how much extra holiday spending money we would have as a result of buying the cheap tickets in the back. Good thing too with the Bush Peso as worthless as it is and I need all the Euro I can get...Urop is ffffing expensive.
Turns out that the flight was a really pleasant surprise. Load was 50 people in Y on a 744 and being an early daylight flight we were served a massive breakfast (I insured against hunger by preordering special meals and we swapped these around for a bit of variety) and these meals did not disappoint and were catered by a well known Cape Town restuarant. Top marks there and top marks on the kiddies meals and amenities. Avod worked fine for once and service was extremely friendly and professional throughout the flight. The Purser was really on the ball and senior crew seemed to be assigned to this flight. Seats were adequate and basically we had the run of the back. We each scored a full row of four seats after breakfast and the kid had a row of three. Yep, who needs F or NGCW when you get an extra length bed free I slept most of the flight and the missus advised lunch was ok and after lunch there were snacks laid out in the galley for self service - mars bars, kit kats, etc etc.- no one had made a run on these after I woke up so plenty o drinks& snacks all around. A full Dinner was served about 1.5 hours before landing and this was good and edible at least by the standards of my jaded palate. I have to admit this was a most pleasant 11.5 hour journey on BA WT and I am very glad I didnīt spring for WT+ or even club world in this instance. I did spend a few hours in my seat- even slept in it a bit- no problem really, and since I had prebooked (check in online early) I managed to snag row 40 which had great legroom.
