Have they looked at options through other airports- ORD, DFW, JFK? I know that at least some of those have morning flights. It may involve an overnight, but could work better than trying to get into the few remaining seats on a full flight. Of course, they could also roll some paid J pax into those F seats on the LAX flight and give you the J seats. Good luck!
