Actually, sometimes the traffic on the 101 to SBA can be almost as bad as the 405 (although not consistantly like on the 405). I almost missed a flight out of SBA last month because the traffic was so bad going N in the morning rush.
Also, OXR isn't always quicker than driving to LAX...those flights are more often cancelled due to fog, et al., than jet flights and I've missed a few connections at LAX.
Having said that, if I were given a choice between LAX and OXR, OXR wins hands down. The ground staff is much better than LAX...they're actually human (and humane). Plus you get 500 miles.
But I'm rambling here, your talking about flying from SBA to LAX...I think you'd have to be *completely nuts* to do OXR-LAX ONLY instead of driving.
