I rotunely fly SNA-LAX-somewhere-LAX-SNA and skip the last LAX-SNA segment because I decide to do something in LA(like go to an NBA game) rather than go straight home. I have paid more for the SNA connection than it would have cost just to get off at LAX so they can note all they want. I paid and did not fly.

But thanks for the warning in case I was going to do something sketchy.
