Hi,

I'm new to Flyer Talk, so I apologize if this is a really basic question (I also did look for quite a bit, but could not find the answer on here already, though I'm sure it's out there somewhere.)

I signed up for a Mileage Plus credit card and they said it would take 6-8 weeks for them to a) post the 20,000 promotional miles to my account after my 1st $250 purchase and b) post the bonus miles to my friend who referred me. Have you all found this to be about right in reality? Or has anyone been pleasantly suprised? Or bitterly disappointed?

I am just wondering because I am nervous the flight we need will disappear by the time they are posted. (It's a flight to/from China in late July, nearing the time of the Olympics. Right now its 60,000 miles, but NWA has similar flights for 120,000! Don't want it to get to that point...)
