Okay, now I'm really irritated! I'm terribly flattered that Asia's World City took my suggestion of doing fireworks in the Harbour on Western New Year's Eve, but I wish they had done it last year, or at least had publicized it so we could have decided whether to dash over from BKK to see the show.
But, so everyone knows, on New Year's Eve 2008, HK did light off a fireworks show in Victoria Harbour, starting with a nice series shot from IFC 2 Tower and then from other harbourfront buildings. Perhaps they were inspired by the show and the massive crowds drawn to Taipei 101 last year. Or maybe the hoteliers and restaurants finally prevailed, knowing they could make some extra cash from the show. It's unclear whether this was done simply for 2008, as the year of the Beijing (and HK) Olympics, or if it's the start of an annual show.
