It should not surprise anyone that cell phone calls can be made from an airplane. Isn't that how passengers on one of the hijacked jets on 9/11 learned of their hijackers' intent and decided to storm the cockpit? (At a lower altitude than 33,000 feet, admittedly)
Receiving a text message and making a call at 33,000 feet are two very different things.
(And I won't argue that 9/11 point at all... That's for another thread!)
