The OP should seek out R class fares on CO, which are far more reasonable than the 10K price being seen, likely a J fare.
I wouldn't waste anything more than 1200pp on AA.
CO's product is the only way to get to Hawai'i looking at the product as a whole -
1) Lounge access at all airports being traversed
2) 767-400 widebody service
3) Superb catering, offered by menu
4) Decent IFE
5) Superior inflight and ground service to the competition
It's not worth an 6K differential, but there are CO R fares out there which are competitive - maybe about 1800-2200pp r/t.
