I hear ya, it was not a logical decision - rather a purely emotional one. Living in NYC as I did then, I could have easily flown to AMS (or anywhere in Europe) on any number of carriers, but instead chose to fly NYC-IAH-AMS...
And yes, you can redeem that flight using standard PerkSaver WBC award level. In our case, we redeemed 120K to fly US-Africa in C the whole way.
