The extra mile per £ using a US card in the UK would not justify the exchange rate loading, just as when I am in the US the exchange rate loading of 2.75% using a UK Citi AAdvantage card means that miles would cost me 2.75p (5.5c) compared to using a UK Nationwide card with no exchange rate loading.
