I travel with electronic gear every week, and I agree with the others - check it. If you're interested in shopping for a hard case to check instead of soft-sided carry-ons, take a look at Pelican brand cases. You can customize the foam interior inside to hold your montor like a glove. They're waterproof, too. The monitor won't get damaged. As for theft, that's another story. (You can also ship the Pelican with no additional packing, just slap a label on it.) I don't travel to Bogota, but if you're on a major carrier, I would guess the chances of theft are well below 50 percent. TSA locks are pretty much junk. I usually use plastic zip ties. Sure, a thief can just break them, but it offers a little more of a deterrent, as they may not want to go through the hassle.
