that's not a good ideal. The bars/racks/whatever u want to call them are not really set up for holding skis- most suvs have factory installed bars along each side of roof, with no side bar.U would have to tie your skis to these bars somehow both on the inside and hope they don't scratch the roof/slip or fall off while going down the road. Can you rent the ski rack in CA? I know they go for 10$ day rental in CO. If you are keeping for a week or longer maybe it would be better just to buy a rack.
