Shoes off - Shoes on Make up your minds
I recently flew JetBlue from FLL to LGA. Upon cueing up at FLL there was a sign which said remove your shoes before screening. Upon arriving at the puffer machine, I was told to put my shoes on. I asked about the sign on the line, and was told it didn't apply.
After the puffer machine, I was instructed to remove my shoes before I went through the metal detector. Upon collecting my belongings at the end of the conveyor, I was told not to put my shoes on there but go to a special area about 10-15 feet away to put them back on.
I should add that there I was not subjected to any special additional screening and this seemed to be the procedure for all the other confused passengers as well.
Perhaps the solution is to wear only one shoe and put the other on the conveyor.
MAKE UP YOUR MINDS for god's sake!
Stay the curse!
