I am very confused by your post. Why should the OP not wait until 12/30 to comply with the PLT requirements???

You see it as a negative, I could see it as an example of meticulous planning.

What does your EXP vs PLT point have to do with the discussion?

I would be ticked off too if other pax get upgraded in mid-flight without a good reason. If the other guys were EXP, good reason. If the other guys had a medical reason, good reason.
But, in general, if I get a three row in coach I am happy....
