When I travel with my family, there are three of us on two PNRs. My wife and I are usually revenue tix, and we both show up with "1" on the BP (and that faded brown color if we don't check in online). My son is on an award tix and he shows up in some other area, and blue.

I've never had any GA question the three of us boarding together.
But perhaps it would be different if we were three adults.
