Sorry if this is too late to be helpful but I took the title of your thread too literally and didn't read the actual post until now.

Ask AC to check you in for your connecting flight on UA. You should be able to check bags through also, if that's an issue. The separate ticket should not prove fatal.

I've never done this interline with *A, but I have certainly done it with multiple UA tickets.
