Just talked to a third person at reservations and they told me again that even if on the same itinerary, they will only upgrade the traveling companion if the status member is also upgraded. The argument was that you were basically using your SE status to unfairly trump other status members from getting in at their window. I guess I can understand, but would think it should be documented somewhere.
