This doesn't make sense. Whatever class of ticket the OP buys, that is the EQM he will receive, whether they upgrade or don't upgrade it.
From a
safety perspective, I'd get it online, and choose the "upgrade with miles" option. That way you don't shell out the big bucks for a B, and then have no awards available.
Also, in looking at your award chart, it's showing that M class is upgradeable, which I think is no longer the case.
