Several of the European and Asian carriers had inflight wifi for most of 2006, and I don't think it was such a controversy... I loved it, it was great to be able to get a full days work done during a 12-hour flight across the Atlantic. I tried VOIP once, but airplanes are simply too noisy for that to really work, and it was more of an experiment -- I wasn't planning to have a conversation.

I think the article quoted by the OP is a great example of American media making a mountain out of a molehill... What's the difference between someone surfing porn sites, or pulling up porn pictures from their hard drive, which they can do today? The reality is, most people don't pay attention to what is on other people's laptops... and if they're trying to, they shouldn't!

No idea what the price point will be, but I can only imagine that Connexion by Boeing went out of business because not enough people bought it... I actually thought it was well worth the money, so hope whomever brings it back finds a business model that is sustainable!
