flygirl - Merry is a very loyal subject of Elizabeth II, and is firmly ensconced in Merry Olde England (or Cool Brittania, as the case may be, though I think he's a bit too stodgy for that). I must agree that the OED is the definitive authority on English - mine crossed the ocean with me.
