Best use of UA cert, max miles/$
Hello--
I have a UA $100 off certificate that expires in late March 2008 (don't remember the specific date). It is from a mechanical delay for a flight I was on this past Jan....very generous timeframe, and the cert is for more than the original flight cost me. It is good for any UA travel in the United States, including UAx, but not codeshares.
Anyway, I'm a US GP, and thought this would be a great way to get some US miles started in 2008. I did some looking, and found PHX-MHT (Manchester, NH) for about $210 (to maximize miles), or a PHX-MHT-LAX-PHX for about $280 (actually PHX-ORD-IAD-MHT, MHT-IAD-LAX-PHX). The best I can find is about $.04 before this $100 kicks in (then about $.028).
I tried to build in a longer run like PHX-MHT-HNL-PHX, but the cost really jumps up (about $600). So I come to the experts, is the PHX-MHT-PHX run sufficient, or can I do better?
Keeping all this in mind, I'll be in coach on UA.... My US status doesn't really impact travel on UA, although there've been a few cases of op-up or otherwise generous GA's/FA's, but I'll count on the whole trip in coach.
Let me know any thoughts.... Thanks!
