And yes, I'm relying on points, not miles. I have approximately 42k miles but (as of now) about 52k points, thanks to a long-haul premium cabin flight at 150% EQPs.
I would leave it as-is. I've received quite a few more points that I should have this year, and they've stayed around. Further, if they reduced it after-the fact, I think you'd have a very good case to say "but it said that I was at 50K EQP...and now it's too late."
How short will you be if they reduce it to 0.5X?
