Amtrak uses the bucket system so you will bay the highest fare for them. They may be able to get the senior discount. Check every day or so, if someone canceles their ticket then more seats will open up. Sometimes agents will book pax on sold out trains. I got them to do so in the past, but I am select+; I am not sure if they will do it for 'regular' members.
