I think the idea having AI joining is not because of their international routes but more their domestic routes.

Just to compare India with China: finally I will be able to start to earn miles for my *A accounts on CA/FM and I'm happy with it. I wouldn't start to fly CA/FM on international routes if I have better options like SQ/ANA/LH etc. But for domestic routes the story is different. So why not fly AI in India and earn some status miles for my requalification instead of nothing?
