Some have suggested here before that the computer won't let them print a BP that close to departure time -- maybe they can add you to the standby list at best.
Not sure if the OP got a BP because the delay had already posted, or if the above is incorrect and that the agents can override with the right keystrokes...
A good agent knows the right keystrokes to solve almost any problem. For example, say that another flight was cancelled and some of the passengers can be accomodated on a flight that departs in 25 minutes. Well, of course, the agent is going to be able to "override" the computer and issue boarding passes to those passengers. In fact, the gate agent issues boarding passes right up until the flight departs.
