I stayed here as well as at the HP Convention Center in Orlando while racking up points and stays. I also pricelined a night at the Amerisuites Northwest Orlando for an early flight out. It was interesting to see the evolution.
Amerisuites Northwest had some of the oldest furniture I've ever seen in an Amerisuites including the bed unfortunately. The property itself was otherwise okay. The HP Convention Center was about halfway done with conversion with no pantry or bar and the old Amerisuites breakfast, while the HP Universal has it's pantry and bar up and running to "full" HP status, meaning eggs cost more at breakfast if you want them.
I did not have any particularly bad experiences at either the HP Convention Center or HP Universal. Both were sufficeintly staffed when I checked in and I found the rooms to be typical of HP. While both could have used some sprucing up, I have stayed in far worse places while paying more money. The HP experience will never be the Grand Hyatt experience, but while earning 3000 GP points and racking up .5 FFN stays for $89, it certainly was quite an acceptable place to be.
