I have been staying at the Westin Peachtree in Atlanta almost every week for the past 10 weeks for work, and all-in-all, it's a very nice hotel. Clean rooms, great views, rooms not too big, but not too small.
Anyway, I had a few service issues 2 weeks ago (botched room service order, noisy neighbors on both sides, and my favorite -- upon checking in past midnight, was given a key to a room that was already occupied by quite an irritable woman who screamed out "WHAT THE @#$%?!" when I opened the door, and followed me out to the elevator yelling at me, asking me what I was doing. Didn't really complain because I guess I was tired, and these things don't seem to phase me any more (just hit 150 SPG nights since May). But, the morning I checked out, there was a letter from the night manager apologizing for the inconvenience (didn't specify which one), and saying to contact him personally the next time I was coming to Atlanta, and he would upgrade me to a suite if available. (Yeah, this is supposed to be a Platinum privilege anyway, but it's hardly ever offered at this hotel because there aren't many suites - I think 14 out of over 1000 rooms.)
Well, I contacted him on the way in from the airport last night, and I was pleasantly surprised when I was given the GOVERNOR'S SUITE!!! Probably 1,400 square feet, the size of about 5 standard rooms, long hardwood floor entry hallway, wet-bar, two bathrooms, amazing views, large round dining table, full living room, and all on the top guest-floor of the tallest hotel in the Western Hemisphere! It's actually almost too big for my spoiled 23-year-old self!
This is the last week of my project here in Atlanta, so this upgrade is a nice send-off from the hotel that's basically been my home for the past 2 months.
