definitely up to 6 hrs is not considered a stopover, but you may stopover for longer than 6 hrs if no scheduled onward flight up to 24 hrs after which time it's a stopover no matter what.

I have booked a stopover in BKK from BA to AY for my parents and they're staying overnight in BKK as the next available flight (with inventory) was the next day.
