We in the US have mince pie, but it's a different filling. Ours is a mock mice (no meat or lard) and has diced apples, raisins, citrus pieces, spices, spirits/wine, shortening or butter, and sometimes nuts and other fruit

Traditional would be made with lard, beef suet, venison or other meats in addition to the fruits etc. mentioned above.

Back OT with BA....I wonder if it's "legal" to serve/eat on a BA flight to or from UK on Xmas day?
UK mince pies are the "mock mince" you refer to, essentially spiced fruit. Meat pies would never be referred to as mince pies, although they may be called minced beef pies etc.
