I did this trip about 5 times this year (and about 3 times last year) and all but one of the international segments cleared the upgrade from Y to C. I have always taken the DEN-IAD-GRU-IAD-DEN routing leaving from the US on a Sunday returning Thursday or Friday. BUT, the upgrade rarely confirms to either day of or day before departure.
