I agree. Last summer, my flight to HKG on CX 889 was delayed leaving JFK and so I arrived in HKG a bit late, with 50 mins to catch my onward flight to MNL. I still made it with time enough to get to the Pier, have a quick shower AND change my MNL-HKG return flight at the desk in order to make my onwards flight to BOM. Of course, it did help that I was already checked through to MNL. But still, that's Hong Kong efficiency for you.
