I' probably unlike most here in that much of the time I'd jump at the chance for an I/VDB.

The only time I've come close was on AA ex-LHR. There was a PA announcement just as I reached the front of the check-in queue that they were looking for vols. The offer was $500 credit and a guaranteed seat on the next flight (less than 2 hours away).

They didn't need me in the end, but I had to wait in the gate area until the bitter end to find out.

What surprised me was that they were willing to offer so much for a VDB: $500 vs the €300 they would be liable for if they had to IDB. OK, it was credit as opposed to cash. Don't tell anyone, but I would have done it for a lot less...
